Look, I'm all for electric cars. For most people in their day to day lives they make a ton of sense. My main issue with the i3 is this:

WHY DID THEY MAKE IT SO FUCKING UGLY?

Honestly it looks like a nissan cube and an X3 had sex and this thing popped out. It's TERRIBLE.

That thing, with its skinny tires, and ugly ass front weighs 2700lbs?!!? My car weighs 2700lbs and has more power, and is bigger, and looks better, and handles better, did I mention it isn't ugly. . .

Eh the 2700 lbs mark actually impressed me a little bit. How many cars are actually available now that weigh less than 3000 lbs?

There are a few, excluding stuff like the Lotus elise and company. The Japanese are actually really good at making a light car. My car is 2700lbs and you can get a Miata which is under the 3000lb weight marker. Its amazing, cause some of the higher end car makers can't hope to hit 3000lbs. The Corvette with its light V8 is 3400lbs(the Zo6 is a lot lighter, I think -200lbs, but I heard it is a pain to drive).

Thats my point though. With all the additional electronics and safety equipment unless it's a tiny car it's really hard to get under 3000 lbs now unless you do crazy expensive stuff like BMW did here with liberal use of composites. The curb weight on my Cherokee is only 3150 lbs (granted, 2 door RWD, no power windows or locks) and it's basically made of solid steel with a giant freaking iron straight six block; the new Cherokee is listed with a curb weight of 3800 lbs for the 4x2. Cars are getting heavier, it's just the way it is.

So much hate .... this thing is awesome IMO, it actually looks like a concept car. People would bitch if it looked boring. Not to mention the interior is gorgeous.

Most concept cars are ugly IMO. I'd rather it look boring and actually tasteful than terrible and 'interesting'.

Well as a design student ..... I hate you.

The future is coming whether you want or not, might as well embrace it.

So the wheel are just imaginary then?

They're outboard, on a small city car. Its explained in a story/sketch (I realize you didn't get the whole picture), but when you're doing a bunch of exploratory renderings, it helps speed things up to quickly do things that are implied. Esp. in these cases where I was trying to show the body behind the wheels.

EDIT: I should of just said these are not final production type renderings.

I guess so, but they can't call the BMW light. I mean it is light, but for its size it is pretty hefty.

I just don't really like the really out there concept cars. It just seems like runway fashion to me, no one actually wears clothes like that just like no one actually produces concept cars. And for good reason: just like with runway fashion they're normally pretty ugly and don't age well at all. I understand that everything is exaggerated so that you can make a point but when you're designing a car for production it has to age well. The buyer needs to like it 3 years after they bought it, long after the COOL factor has worn off. Bitching about how production cars don't look like concept cars kinda just seems like whiny design jerking off. WHY ARE THE STUPID BUSINESS PEOPLE RUINING MY CUTTING EDGE DESIGN?!

Good thing I just crept on your comments.

"Whiny design jerking off" statement coming at ya - almost everything you've owned has looked like a brick ....

.... maybe your not the intended audience.

Volvo S60 - not bricklike

EF Civic - eh, sorta squared off, but I'd say not like a brick

E46 - not bricklike

Silverado - bricklike

E30 - bricklike

Cherokee - bricklike

242- bricklike

Yeah, I've been tending toward the brickness for a while now, but brickness can be sexy.
And with the exception of the Silverado which was bought for purely functional reasons I think all my brick cars look pretty damn good.
But I still think the best looking car I've owned was my E46, I miss that car a lot. I loved the S60 too, too bad it was an automatic.
